<text>Dhananjai Pandey is a distinguished educator and internationally recognized researcher in the field of Materials Science and Technology. He began his academic career in 1977 as a faculty member at Banaras Hindu University / Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi and retired as Professor (HAG) in 2017. Following his retirement, he continued to serve the Institute as an Institute Professor for another five years.

Professor Pandey served for nearly a decade as the Coordinator (Head) of the School of Materials Science and Technology. Under his leadership, the School developed into an internationally respected center for teaching and research in advanced functional materials. During this period, world-class laboratories equipped with modern instruments were established for research on a wide range of materials, including functional oxides, polymers, alloys, biopolymers, nanocrystalline materials, and thin films. He also played an important role in designing and implementing a five-year integrated dual degree program in Materials Science and Technology.

After the transformation of the Institute of Technology, BHU into Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, Professor Pandey was entrusted with the responsibility of serving as the first Director of the newly established IIT. During his tenure, he initiated several important academic and administrative developments, including the establishment of a Central Instruments Facility with advanced research infrastructure for both science and engineering disciplines. He also contributed to the formulation of institutional policies related to research funding, consultancy, procurement, and academic governance, many of which were approved by the Institute Senate and Board of Governors.

Later, at the request of the Chairman of the Board of Governors, he continued his administrative responsibilities as Dean of Faculty Affairs. In this role, he guided the development and implementation of important policies concerning salary fixation, faculty recruitment, and promotion in accordance with IIT standards.</text>
